WHAT’S NEXT

The Health Care Center for the Homeless received a $1.1 million grant from the HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration) for expansion of services that will provide medical and behavioral health care for the homeless.  The grant also provided for the creation of a 37 foot mobile medical unit that is equipped with two exam rooms.  This unit will bring primary care and behavioral health services to the tri-county homeless population.

HCCH continues to implement our Electronic Health Records, a system which will create a paperless and wireless electronic health record for each of our patients. Future implications for this program will be the ability to communicate with area health care providers thus ensuring continuity of care and eliminating duplication of services.

Our Health Navigator position continues to work in the area hospital emergency rooms.  This new position is designed to provide follow-up referrals to the Orange Blossom Family Health Center. The goal of this program is to eliminate the inappropriate use of the hospital emergency rooms by the homeless for primary care.

The behavioral health program of the Health Care Center for the Homeless is expanding to provide increased individual and group counseling opportunities for our homeless and uninsured patients.  As part of our growth we are hiring additional licensed mental health counselors to meet the growing need in the community.
